S.A.F.E. Petitions
When it comes to petitions a lot of Tenant Associations try to Petition the landlord, property manager or their County, City, or State Legislative branch in order to try and enact change. Even Tenants Unions try to do the same thing, however a lot of times the efforts they put into a Petition are futile due to only having so many tenants available in the building or buildings they are petitioning for, so a lot of times they resort to setting up tables or booths to acquire enough signatures to complete the requirement to send to their landlords, County, City or State representative.
So how many signatures are required for a petition and what exactly is a petition? Well lets first look at what a petition is, in simple term’s it’s a legal form required to make change happen, Webster’s dictionary defines it as follows:
a
: a formal written request made to an authority or organized body (such as a court)
Or
b
: a written request or call for change signed by many people in support of a shared cause or concern
How many signatures are required in order to submit a petition? It depends on what type of petition you are trying to submit, but all petitions require hundreds if not more, signatures and thus it’s usually extremely hard to get enough signatures to formally submit a petition.
However, S.A.F.E. Housing Union can usually gather enough signatures in a short period of time to submit a petition within days if not weeks, as we rely on our members to sign them. Any member who is registered to vote is allowed to sign a petition, and any of our members who are registered to vote normally sign our petitions. So rather than rely solely on the public, or on one apartment complex, we rely on our members all over the area and we are able to get petition signatures a lot faster than normal.
With this approach S.A.F.E. Housing Union can use the power of the people our members to wield the power of the petition to achieve common goals and affectively cause powerful good changes in our communities.
